Admin History

Frederick Kendall, a chemist, set up business at 33 High Street, Stratford-upon-Avon in 1840, acquiring the freehold of the premises in 1853. In 1874 Kendall moved to Mulberry Street to set up a chemical woprks, and leased the chemist's shop to Richard Hawkes, who purchased the freehold in 1882 and continued in business until at least 1908. By 1911 the premises were occupied by F.D. Spencer, optician and chemist, in whose family the business remained until 1961 when the premises were incorporated into J.C. Smith's department store and the business records retained by Frederic John Spencer, the depositor
