Description

Feoffment from John Hales of Coventr' esq., to John Bridde of the same corviser, for 31 pounds, of two cottages and two gardens thereto adjoining in the tenures of Richard Seymor and Agnes Heynes, widow, lying together on the north side of Sponne Streit, in the suburbs of Coventr', between the tenement of John Collyns on the west side and the tenement of the Crown formerly belonging to the late Guild of the Holy Trinity on the east side and extending in length from the said street on the south to the lands of the Mayor, Bailiffs and Commonalty of the City on the north; and also one other cottage, one garden and one selion of land and pasture to the said cottage belonging in the occupation of Thomas Beedell lying together on the north side of the said street between the said tenement of the Crown on the west side and the tenement of William Starkye gent., on the east side in breadth, and extending in length from the said street on the south side to the lands of Christopher Warene draper, on the north side; which premises were formerly parcel of the possessions of the former Hospital of St. John the Baptist in Coventr'; also a cottage and garden in the occupation of Henry Porter situate on the north side of the said street between the tenement of William Marlere esq., on the west side and the said tenement of the Crown on the east side in breadth, and extending in length from the said street on the south side to the lands of the said Mayor and Commonalty on the north side; also those two little crofts in the occupation of the said Thomas Beedell lying together on the north side of the said street between the king's highway there on the west side and the lands of Henry Waver alias Over, mercer, on the east side in breadth and extending in length from the said street on the south as far as the said Crown lands on the north, which cottage etc. were formerly part of the possessions of the priory of Coventr', and had come into the possession of the said John Hales as in no. DR10/416. Appointment of Richard Denton' of Coventr' as attorney to deliver seisin of the said premises.D Dated: 1 October, 4 Edward VI. Signed: Ego idem Joannes Hales. Seal on tag: circular, red. Two cocks fighting. Legend indecipherable. Endorsed with a memorandum of livery of seisin in the presence of Robert Mure, John Theyker, Thomas Roo, Hugh Forster, John Lightborne, Thomas Arche, Richard Stansfeyld and others. Also endorsed with memorandum that the said four messuages were sold, before 1561, by the said John Berd and William Berd, his son and heir.
