Counterpart of indenture of assignment dated 23 June (?) 1738/9 (Old style) [1739], between Joseph Townsend of the parish of St. James, Westminster, of the first part and Thomas Drury of Queen's Square near Ormond Street in the parish of St. George the Martyr (reciting that Thomas Beacon, late of Ilford, co. Essex., esq., deceased, by his Will, dated 9 February 1736, bequeathed certain annuities for lives to his sisters to be paid out of £20,000 3% annuities vested in his executors and he bequeathed the said £20,000, after the death of his sisters, to Thomas Beacon Townsend and Thomas Drury, and reciting the Will of Thomas Beacon Townsend, dated 25 June 1737, whereby he bequeathed the residue of his real and personal estate to Joseph Townsend and appointed Joseph Townsend and Robert Ferguson his executors and reciting that one of the sisters of Thomas Beacon was dead) whereby it was witnessed that Joseph Townsend, in consideration of £10,000 (his share of the said £20,000) to him paid by Thomas Drury released the said Thomas Drury from all further claim to the £20,000 3% annuities and promised to pay £50 per annum towards the annuity of £100 per annum given to Mrs. Drury by the Will of Thomas Beacon for her life. Witnesses: Gabriel Leaver of Friday Street, and William Barbour. With bill of costs for drawing the above deed.
