Copy of a settlement,being a release from Lucy Bowen of Swansea, county Glamorgan, widow relict of Rev. William Bowen, late of Swansea, clerk, her second husband, and of Benjamin Morgan, late of the same, esq., her first husband (in consideration of the intended marriage of her nephew and heir presumptive, Arthur Francis Gregory of Stivichall, esq. with Caroline Hood), to Richard Newcombe Gresley of the Inner Temple, co. Middlesex, gent., and Charles Grote of the City of London, banker of the following lands and tenements subject to a debt of 1500 pounds under a mortgage of 19 and 20 January 1815, assigned to John Bennet of Lalestone, co. Glamorgan, esq., on 1 and 2 May 1825, subject also to an annuity of 100 pounds under the will of the said Benjamin Morgan to Susan, wife of John Jenkyns of Swansea, attorney at law, for life, to be paid after the decease of the said Benjamin Morgan and Lucy Bowen, and subject to the sum of 5000 pounds by a settlement made on the marriage of the said Lucy Bowen to her second husband, William Bowen, to be paid on her decease; namely a capital messuage called Wernlloynweath, Gwernllwynwheeth, Wermlwyith or Gwernllwynwith with the demesnelands thereto belonging, also three closes adjoining the said lands called the Mill Lands containing twelve acres three roods six perches, and the following farms (boundaries given); Cold Saeson Issa, Cold Saeson Ytha [Ycha], Lwyn y Crowyde, Clyng Gors, Penrhos, Tyr y fron, Garth hen Fach, Tyr y Cwm, Tyr-odin-Galch, and Crymlyn; all which lands lie in the parishes of Lansamlet and Cadoxton-iuxta-Neath and comprise the lands and tenements given under the will of Thomas Morgan of Birchgrave, esq., deceased, to trustees for the use of his son Thomas Morgan, late of Bengal, esq., deceased, who bequeathed them to his brother the said Benjamin Morgan; to hold the same, subject to the charges specified above, to the said Richard Gresley and Charles Grote to the use of the said Lucy Bowen for life, with remainder to the said Arthur Gregory and his intended wife and their heirs male, or in default to the use of Arthur Charles Gregory and Arthur William Gregory (brothers of the said Arthur Francis) and their heirs male in turn, or in default to the use of Arthur William Gregory (son of Arthur William Gregory late of Madras) and of his brother Arthur Thomas Gregory and their heirs male in turn, etc. Appointment of George Grote of the City of London, grocer, and John Voss of of Swansea, banker, as additional trustees for a term of 200 years to insure, by sale or mortgage or other means, that during the life of the said Lucy Bowen she shall receive annually from the said lands the clear sum of 2000 pounds, and, after her death, to apply one quarter of the profits from the said lands towards the payment of any charges on the said lands. Other provisions relate to the running of the mines on the said lands.
