21 June 1732 Will of Newsham Peers, Alveston, esq. Bequests to brothers Phillip and Edmund (of New York), sister Elizabeth. To friends Lt. Gen. Joseph Sabine; John Knight, Gosfield Hall, Essex., esq., John Marsh, Middle Temple; Richard Marriett, Anscott, Warks., esq. to Aunt Ann Knight, Gosfield Hall. To kinsman James Newsham, Chadshunt, Warks. esq. Real estate toTrustees: Sabine, Knight, Marsh, Marriett and brother Philip: in trust for benefit of wife Susannah for life and then to eldest son and heirs male; in default to other sons successively, with remainder to Phillip Peers and his heirs male successively and then to Elizabeth Peers and her heirs male; final remainder to James Newsham and his heirs male then to right heirs of testator. Note attached that Administration of will and codicil of Hon. Newsham Peers late of Alveston, Col. of H. M. Royal Regiment of Fusiliers in Germany, granted to brother Philip, the executors named in will having died and widow having renounced, 11 February 1744. 16 July 1743 Copy codicil written in expectation of not surviving wounds: appointing 2 fellow officers Major Roger Lent and Capt. Richard Bendythe as trustees to dispose of personal and military equipment in Germany and at Ghent. Horses to be sold: English roan gelding with accoutrements to Capt. John Bernard Double. Shot pistol to James Newsham. Remaining wine to be drunk by Officers of Regiment. Locked chests and trunks to be sent to brother Capt. Philip Peers. 2 camp tables to Mrs. Stupreant in Ghent. Servants' saddles, bridles and pistols to servant Abraham Banks. Pecuniary bequests to servant William Wessell, surgeons, washerwomen, soldiers who carried him off field of battle, new shirt to soldier who tore up his for bandages, clothes to servant Wessell. [Peers was shot in the throat while leading his regiment at the battle of Dettingen, 11 July 1743; he died 28 July 1743].
