Description

Abstract of the title of William Goode of Birmingham banker, and John Hardy of Stratford upon Avon, banker, as assignees of the estate and effects of James Hiam, a bankrupt, to several messuages, a brickyard and premises in Stratford. Endorsed with note "Mr. Wheler Sol. for Mr. Mansell purchaser of lots from 9 to 20 ... 19 August 1837". The first deed abstracted is a mortgage by way of lease/release dated 4/5 August 1826 by James Hiam to William Paine and William Woods Weston of Stratford, gentleman, of 2 messuages, theretofore 1 messuage or tenement and farmhouse, with the barn or workshop and other buildings, in a place at the top of Henley Street called Hell Lane [Henley Lane/Windsor Street] or the Townsend, one of which was lately occupied by William Hemings and the other by Joseph Mills, carpenter; also of a close on the W. side of and nearly adjoining the said messuage, containing 2 acres and 23 perches and bounded by the Tithe Barn Rickyard and several gardens on the E., by a foot road leading out of the public road next mentioned into Hell Lane on the S., by the public road leading out of the Birmingham turnpike road into the Alcester turnpike road on the W. and by another close, late the property of Samuel Smith and since of William Roberts and his devisees on the N., which was for many years occupied by Samuel Smith's ancestors and then by William Hemings; also of a right of way from the door leading out of the rickyard belonging to the beforementioned premises at the S.W. corner over the closes belonging to William Roberts now called the Brickkiln Close near the close included in the mortgage, being 4 feet broad along the wall of the Tithe Barn rickyard. The appointment of the assignees of James Hiam's estate, dated 25 May 1837, described him as being of Temple Balsall, farmer, coal dealer, builder, dealer and chapman.
