Description

Articles dated 4 February 1729/30 (Old style) [1730] for a settlement on the marriage of Samuel Tomes, of Stratford upon Avon, yeoman, and Elizabeth Round, of Stratford, spinster, whereby the first named, in consideration of £300 marriage portion, covenants to pay £10 yearly being the interest of £200, to John Smith, of Stratford, writing-master, and Richard Dodd of Alcester, tallow-chandler, to the use of the said Elizabeth, the capital sum, if her husband pre-decease her, to be paid to her at his death, or, if he survive her, to be paid by him to such person or persons as by will or otherwise she shall direct; such payments to be secured by the said Samuel Tomes suffering a judgement to be entered against him for £400.
