Lease and Counterpart: Godfrey's Tenement, Buckland and Laverton, Gloucestershire

Lease and Counterpart from the Right Honourable Thomas, Lord Viscount Weymouth, Baron Thynne of Warminster, Knight of the Most Noble Order of the Garter to James Sperry of Buckland, gentleman of a messuage or tenement and one yard and a half yard land with appurtenances called Godfrey's Tenement consisting of a dwellinghouse garden orchard and curtilage thereto adjoining, containing one acre, and divers lands, meadows, pastures and enclosures and new allotments to the said tenement belonging: which premises were situate in the Parish of Buckland and in the Manor of Buckland and Laverton and were theretofore in the occupation of John Godfrey and afterwards of William Smith, afterwards of Martha Workman and then of James Sperry, except all mines, quarries and timber, for a term of 99 years then ensuing if Elizabeth Sperry (wife of the said James Sperry) then aged 38 years, Mary Ann Sperry then aged 9 years and James Sperry junior then aged 7 years (children of the said James Sperry Senior) or any of them should so long live, at a yearly rent of £2, the payment of £4 upon the dropping of any of the said lives as a heriot and Suit of Court. The consideration for the granting of that Lease being the paying off of a mortgage of £120 by James Sperry and also of £440 also paid by James Sperry. Lease signed: Weymouth. Armorial seal of red wax. Witnesses: James Knight and Thomas Davis. Endorsed with a Surrender dated the 9th October 1811 by James Sperry junior to Thomas Phillipps of the above Lease in consideration of £1050. Counterpart signed James Sperry. Seal of red wax. Witnesses: Robert Boyce Attorney at Law, Laverton and John Bayzand.
