Counterpart of a Settlement on the Marriage of John Cotterell junior and Dorothy Hawkes made between John Cotterell senior of Shottery, yeoman and Mary, his wife and William Hawkes of Sherborne, yeoman and John Cotterell junior (eldest son of the said John Cotterell and Mary, his wife) reciting ER3/3105 and ER3/3106 it was witnessed that John Cotterell and Mary, his wife in consideration of the said intended Marriage and of £60 paid by William Hawkes to them as a marriage portion with his daughter Dorothy assigned to William Hawkes and John Cotterell junior the premises described in ER3/3105 and ER3/3106 for the residue of the term of 1000 years, to the use of the said John Cotterell and Dorothy Hawkes (after the solemnisation of the intended marriage) for their lives and the life of the survivor with remainder to the use of the heirs male of the said John begotten on the body of the said Dorothy and in default of such issue to the use of the heirs female of the said John begotten on the body of the said Dorothy and in default of such issue to the use of the Executors and Administrators of the said John Cotterell, senior for the residue of the said term of 1000 years. Purchased on 27 June 1928 from Mr F Guyver of Rother Street, Stratford-upon-Avon.
