Deeds relating to The Golden Cross Inn, Harvington, Worcs.,and some land and cottages adjoining; nos 1-20 are in a separate parcel: 1-2. Memorandum of agreement for sale and purchase of 12th February 1826, and conveyance by lease and release (copy) from Joseph Hawkes of Harvington, yeoman, to John Marshall of Harvington, maltster, in consideration of £450, of an allotment piece of land at Harvington, at or near the four mile stone in the turnpike road from Evesham to Alcester containing five acres, called Hawkes' Piece and in the occupation of JH, 26th-27th May 1826. 3. Copy probate of the will of John Marshall of Harvington, maltster and farmer, made 17th October 1823, proved 23rd October 1830, copy made 1843. 4-5. Feoffment from John Marshall of Harvington, yeoman, to Joseph Cale, yeoman of the guard, and of Tottenham Court Road, Mdx, of a piece of land of 1 rood 15 perches part of Hawkes's Field (marginal plan), 29th September 1832, with covenant to produce deeds, 20th April 1843. 6. Mortgage to secure £300 from Joseph Cale to Daniel Edge of Evesham, gent., of the land which now has erected upon it an inn with stables, brewhouse, outhouses, and buildings, 3rd May 1843. 7. Settlement in trust of the above premises, now known as The Golden Cross, and subject to the said mortgage, by JC on Sarah Williams, his sister and the wife of William Williams of Harvington, innkeeper, 6th May 1843. 8-9. Mortgage by appointment to secure a balance not exceeding £100 and subject to a mortgage of £300, from William Williams and Sarah, his wife, to Henry Baker of Pershore, wine and spirit merchant, of the said property, 8th May 1843. Endorsed with transfer of mortgage from HB to George Chinnick of no 7 Moore St, Chelsea, gent., the principal and arrears of interest still being due, 30th August 1851. With notice from HB to Daniel Edge of the settlement and further mortgage of the property, 9th May 1843 10. Conveyance from William Bennett, late of Harvington, now of Church Salford, Warks, to Joseph Cale of Harvington, gent., of a piece of land called Porter's Elm Corner, used as garden ground and containing 16 perches in Harvington, bounded on the east by the land and premises called The Golden Cross Inn, 21st August 1843. 11. Conveyance from George Chinnick of no. 2 Hanover St., Pimlico, Mdx. gent., trustee of the will of Joseph Cale (died 29th April 1856) to Thomas Matthews of Ardens Grafton, gardener, of land called Porter's Elm Corner, containing 24 perches, 2nd January 1858 12-13.Conveyance from George Chinnick (as before) to Thomas Matthews (as before), in consideration of £338 mortgage principal and interest paid to William Bowen Edge of Evesham, mercer, and £2 paid to GC, the balance of the purchase price of £340, of The Golden Cross, and assignment from WBE to Herbert New of Evesham, gent., to attend the freehold and inheritance, 2nd January 1858. With letter from GC in London to "Gentleman", 13 Feby 1857, stating that he is owed £100 and three years' interest secured on The Golden Cross, due 30th August 1856. 14. Mortgage to secure £200 and interest from Thomas Matthews, now of Harvington, innkeeper, to Benjamin Bomford of Salford Priors, Hemming James Bomford of Dunnington, and Joseph Bomford the younger, of Sheriffs Lench, Worcs, all farmers, of The Golden Cross, 9th January 1858. Endorsement: Whereas James Bomford the younger died 28th August 1861, and TM has this day paid off the mortgage to BB and HJB, they now reconvey the property to TM, 6th October 1862. 15. Lease for 21 years from Thomas Matthews of Harvington, innholder, to George Shailer of Knighton in Inkberrow, Worcs., farmer, of The Golden Cross, 16th December 1861. 16. Conveyance from Thomas Matthews of Gothrinton, Glos, farmer, and George Shailer of Harvington, innholder, a bachelor, in consideration of £380, of The Golden Cross and the land called Porter's Elm Corner (marginal plan), 26th January 1863. 17. Mortgage to secure £300 and interest from George Shailer to George Eades of Evesham, gent., of The Golden Cross and Porter's Elm Corner, 27th January 1863. Endorsed with transfer of mortgage from GE to Samuel Garrard of Park Hall, Salford Priors, clerk, in consideration of £350 paid to GE and £50 paid to GS, 23rd April 1867. 18-19. Further charge of £50 from GS to GE secured on the property, 23rd January 1865, with promissory note to pay money to GE, signed by GS, Evesham, 2nd January 1865 attached. 20. Further charge of £63 and interest from GS to the Revd. Samuel Garrard, on The Golden Cross, two cottages recently erected by GS on the land, part of Hawkes Field, and the land called Porter [sic] Elm Corner, 3rd February 1868. 21. Abstract of title of James Major to The Golden Cross Inn, with the garden and appurtenances with two cottages and premises adjoining thereto. (1832-1875), 1880. 22-23. Conveyance from James Major of Evesham, innholder, to William Thomas Marsh of Harvington, innholder, in consideration of £700, of The Golden Cross Inn, with the stables, brewhouse, outhouses, garden, etc., and the piece of ground called Porters Elm Corner, and the two cottages built by George Shailer on the pieces of land therewith, 28th February 1880, with covenant for the production of a deed, of even dating between these parties. 24. Mortgage to secure £550 from William T. Marsh to Charles E. Flower and Edgar Flower of Stratford, common brewers and co-partners, of The Golden Cross Inn with the appurtenances, land called Porters Elm Corner, and the two cottages erected by George Shailer on the lands, 1st March 1880. 25. Probate of the will of William Thomas Marsh formerly of the Golden Cross Inn, innkeeper, died 9th April 1886, 19th June 1886. 26. Letters of administration of Mary Davis of Lansdowne Villa, Harvington, died 1st February 1916 granted to her husband, William Davis, 1st April 1916. 27-29. Mary Davis deceased: Doubts having arisen as to who were the persons entitled to her real estate, there was an action in the Chancery Division of the High Court of Justice between Davis and White resulting in a duplicate order for enquiry, 22nd March 1918, office copy certificate, 9th June 1920, and duplicate order, 6th July 1920. 30. Mary Davis, deceased: Conveyance from William Davis of "Lansdown", Leys Road, Harvington, builder to Emily L. White, wife of Arthur White, of 1 back 171 Farm St, Hilda F. Allen wife of Charles H. Allen, of Hatchett St, Florence B. Hands, wife of Charles William Hands of 122 Bridge St West, and Edith A. Fletcher, wife of Isaiah Fletcher of 4 back 129 Bridge St West, all in Birmingham, of a freehold messuage, butcher's shop, outbuildings and garden known as Malvern View, with adjoining cottage and garden, in Harvington, bounded on eastern side by The Golden Cross Inn, and the freehold messuage known as "Lansdown", now in the occupation of the administrator, 23rd May 1921. 31. Mary Davis deceased: conveyance from Emily L. White, Hilda F. Allen, Florence B. Hands and Edith A. Fletcher to William Davis, in consideration of £1150, of the property described in no. 27 above, 24th May 1921. Memoranda on sales of Malvern View to Gertrude M. Baylis of Harvington, widow, 30th May 1922, and of messuage called Lansdown to Percival Wyatt of Aston, brassfounder, 29th September 1922, WD agreeing to produce title deeds when required. 32. Insurance policy for Lansdowne [sic], the wash house, dwelling house and sales shop etc., occupied by Baylis, butcher, and house, etc., occupied by Best, 1921. 33. Mary Davis deceased: Inland Revenue certificate that full duty has been paid on the house and butcher's shop, and cottage and garden occupied by George Best, 1922. 34-35. Abstract of title of William Davis to messuage and butcher's shop etc., known as Malvern View, and to the cottage occupied by Mrs Best (1881-1921), 1923, with schedule of title deeds handed over to Messrs. Flower Sons Ltd. on completion of purchase (being the documents in this bundle), 1923. 36.
