Snitterfield deeds: Phillips of Welcombe

Description

Attested copy of an Indenture between Stephen Hales of Snitterfield, esquire and Elizabeth his wife of one part, and Sir James Hales of the City of Canterbury, knight and Thomas Hardres of the City of Canterbury, esquire, of the other part whereby Stephen and Elizabeth Hales covenanted with Sir James Hales and Thomas Hardres that they would within one year then next ensuing levy a fine of all the Manor of Snitterfield, Bearley and Luscombe etc. firstly described in DR38/21 together with lands in Kent, which fine should be levied to the uses more particularly described in DR38/21 and Stephen Hales did also covenant promise and grant to Sir James Hales and Thomas Hardres and their heirs etc. that the lands so settled on the said Elizabeth were of the net yearly value of £202 at least. Attested 5th January 1669 by Thomas Ghyles and Edward Berry. N.B. this is a covenant by S. Hales with Trustees for his wife's joynture.
