Description

Lease for 40 years with gift on death of lessee from Thomas Colyns of Thoneworth' and Agnes his wife to Richard Westcote and Emma his wife of a messuage with houses, gardens and all adjacent lands with woods, meadows, feedings and pastures in Toneworth' called Swanesdych' lately in the tenure of Godfrey Colyns, father of the said Thomas; to hold from the feast of the Purification of the Blessed Virgin Mary last past [ 2 February] for 40 years for the annual rent of 16 shillings [ 2 terms], the said Thomas and Agnes to have right of distraint if the said rent was in arrears or unpaid after one month beyond any of the said terms and right of re-entry if sufficient distraint was not found six weeks after the said terms; the said property on the death of the said Thomas to pass to the said Richard and Emma and their lawful issue, or in default of such issue to revert to the rightful heirs of the said Thomas. Dated at Toneworth', Monday before the feast of St Oswald the Bishop, 26 Henry VI. Witnesses: Thomas Sydenhale, John Archer, John Dolphyn of Toneworth', Thomas Westcote, Thomas Blythe of Tysho and others. 1, Oval seal of brown wax on tag, 1/2 x 1/4 in., the letter h with a sprig of foliage. 2, Octagonal seal of brown wax on tag, 1/2 in., the letter I crowned between two sprigs of foliage. Latin, parchment, 10.25 x 4.75 ins. Indented.
