Description

Indentures of Lease and Release, the Release dated 17th August 1822 between William Wilcox of Wolverton gentleman of the 1st apart, Richard Smith of Snitterfield gentleman of the 2nd part, Ann Wilcox, the wife of the said William Wilcox and one of the daughters of the said Richard Smith of the 3rd part, John Campion of Newbold Comyn gentleman and Henry Smith of Snitterfield gentleman of the 4th part and Michael Corbett of Admington, Gloucestershire esquire Edward Townsend Higgins of Bridge Town, Alveston gentleman of the 5th part reciting that William Wilcox was seised of hereditaments hereinafter described, and that a marriage had recently been solemnised between William Wilcox and Ann Smith, in consideration of which the said Richard Smith had given to the said William Wilcox £2000 as a marriage portion whereupon it was agreed that William Wilcox should settle certain hereditaments, it was witnessed that in consideration of the premises and of the marriage portion of £2000 and of 10/- to the said William Wilcox paid by John Campion and Henry Smith, he the said William Wilcox conveyed to the said John Campion and Richard Smith a messuage etc. with barns, stables and homestead in Wolverton otherwise Wolverdington theretofore in the occupation of Mary Cross widow and afterwards of Joseph Hurst and John Astley, and then of Matthew Taylor, also those two home closes adjoining to the said messuage theretofore in the occupation of John Astley and then of Matthew Taylor, also all that one yard land and a quarter lying in the Common Fields of Wolverton theretofore in the tenure of Mary Cross, afterwards of Joseph Hurst since of Thomas Lowe and John Astley and then of the said Matthew Taylor also all that newly erected messuage built by the said John Astley on part of the above mentioned premises and then late in the occupation of Edward Mansell together with appurtenances to the use of William Wilcox for life to the use of John Campion and Richard Smith during the life of William Wilcox upon determination of his life estate by forfeiture or otherwise, in trust to preserve contingent remainders, and after the death of William Wilcox to the use that Ann Wilcox should if she survived receive an Annuity of £100 for life charged upon the said hereditaments, remainder to the use of Michael Corbett and Edward Townsend for a term of 200 years upon trust and for the better securing of the said Annuity subject to a proviso for redemption of the said term, remainder to such uses as the said William Ann Wilcox during their joint lives should by deed or Will appoint, remainder to the use of the first and other sons successively in tail male, remainder to the daughters of the said William Wilcox and Ann his wife as tenants in common, remainder to William Wilcox and his heirs.
