Description

Award of arbitration by Michael Dormer knight, Lord Mayor of London, and Fulk Grevyll' esquire, in the dispute between Richard Archer of Tonworth' county Warr esquire and Henry Hunt of the same, tanner, and Richard Wescott of the same, yeoman; the said Richard Archer and Richard Wescott agreed to be friends and released each other from all trespasses committed up to the date of this agreement; the said Richard Archer and Henry Hunt agreed that whereas by a lease dated 21 May 13 Henry VIII [1521] Margaret Archer, mother of the said Richard, and the said Richard Archer leased to the said Henry Hunt, Elizabeth his wife and Thomas their son certain houses and lands in Tonworth' for a certain term of years, the said Richard now agreed to uphold the terms of this lease and the said Henry Hunt and Elizabeth were to have the right to take underwood for firewood and housebotem heybote, plowghbote, feryebote and cart bote, making no wilful waste, and the right to grub up bushes on the said lands, except in a copse called Newlandes copse; the said Richard Archer also agreed within one year of this agreement to lease to the said Henry Hunt and Elizabeth his wife 2 closes called Appulltons Seuerall and Appulltons Comen and arable land adjoining the 2 closes in a field called Henffelde on the one side and on to Budlane on the other side for the annual rent of 5s. 4d.; to hold from 31 April last for 79 years at the annual rent of 5s. 4d. [2 terms] with timber rights as above, the said Richard Archer having free entry and exit to sell great trees provided no damage was done to grass and hay of the said Henry in the hay season, the said Richard having enough tynsel for housebote etc.; the said Henry to pay the said Richard £25, £20 as a fine for the said land and £5 for the slanders etc. done by the said Richard Wescott against the said Richard Archer.
