Description

Probate copy of the will dated 7 April 1642 of Richard Grimshawe the elder of Knoll gentleman with the following bequests; 1, all his messuages, cottages, lands and tenements in Tanworth, Belsars, and Nuthurste in the occupation of Henry Lea to his son Richard Grimshawe for life, then to his son Richard Grimshawe, the testator's grandchild, and his lawful issue, or in default to Nicholas Grimshawe, the testator's grandchild and his lawful issue, or in default to Elizabeth Grimshawe, the testator's grandchild, and her lawful issue, or in default to the rightful heirs of the said Richard Grimshawe for ever. 2, a cottage with the land belonging to the same in Solihull in the occupation of Widow Corser to Anne Fulford, his servant, for her life. 3, a meadow called Swann meadow to his son Nicholas Grimshawe. 4, £100 to his son-in-law Andrew Palmer in trust to pay the profit from the same to Elizabeth Murrott, the testator's grandchild, wife of Abraham Murrott, for her life and after her death to buy land for Bridget, daughter of the said Abraham and Elizabeth. 5, all lands and tenements in Barkeswell in the occupation of Widow Wayte to Richard Grimshawe, the testator's grandchild, and his lawful issue, or in default to pass as in no.1. 6, £100 each to Elizabeth, Marie, Sara, Clara and Anne, daughters of the said Richard Grimshawe, granddaughters of the testator, with sundry other monetary bequests and the residue to his son the said Richard Grimshawe. Andrew Palmer, his said son-in-law, and his friend Edmund Cowets gentleman appointed executors. Dated 7 April 18 Charles I. [1642] Proved at the Prerogative Court of London 17 July 1649.
