Settlement previous to the marriage of Thomas Archer, son and heir of Sir Simon Archer of Tanworth knight, and Anne Leigh, eldest daughter of Richard Leigh of St Helen's, London, esquire being a covenant between the said Sir Simon Archer, the said Thomas Archer, Philip Younge of Keynton, Shropshire, esquire, Mathew Holbeche of Warwick esquire and John Travell, citizen and merchant of London, of the one part and Sir George Greisley of Drakeloe, Derbyshire, knight and Bart. and the said Richard Leigh of the second part for £3,000 paid by the said Richard Leigh to levy a fine of the manors of Tanworth, Umberslade, Monkespath and Fulwood: 1, the capital messuage of Umberslade Hall, Umberslade Park, a meadow called Broad crofts, a meadow called Indmill coppice, a messuage called Ewefields tenement in the tenure of Richard Wilson with land called Ewefield coppice, Blakemore meadow, Birchchroste, Birchchroste meadow and Dunscrofte; Brownes tenement in the tenure of Joh Rogers with lands called Brownes, Newland meadows and the Further Peasefield; a newly built tenement in the occupation of Edward Poole with lands called Stockings, Appletons, Stocking coppice, Rose crofts and Hogscroft; a messuage in the occupation of John Atkins alias Mathews with lands called Mr Williams Heath belonging to the same; a messuage called Newlands farm in the tenure of John Bissell; a messuage in the tenure of Richard Bradbury called Hinting Wickes and Stanfords; land called Tythe Barn closes, Clarks lands and Willinds land in the tenure of Edward Clarke; a messuage in the tenure of Humphrey Rogers; all this property having been purchased from William Ingram deceased; meadows called Woodlands and Hoggscroft; a recently erected barn in the tenure of Francis Cowper; lands called Wood meadows with 2 barns, one standing on the same, the other on waste ground nearby, in the tenure of John Griffin and Richard arnold; a newly erected messuage with lands called Highfieldes in the tenure of Simon Benford and George Barton; a messuage called Pages in the tenure of William Browne; a messuage in the tenure of John Bennet with lands belonging to the same in the tenure of John Bennet and of Edward Collet, which property was purchased from Richard Bellamye and John Chambers; 4, lands called Windmillfields, Windmill meadows, Heathcrofte, Perryhill, the Nither Peasefield; a messuage called Hoddys tenement with lands called Hodis and Little Beaumonts in the tenure of Francis Doyle; a windmill and messuage lately erected on Earles wood now in the tenure of Richard Arnold miller; a messuage in the tenure of John Wagstaffe; a meadow called Turners in the tenure of Henry Wheeler; lands in the tenure of Thomas Normansill; the rectory of Tanworth with glebe lands and tithes; the advowson of the vicarage of Tanworth; all cottages on the waste ground of Tanworth manor or any other cottages in Tanworth held by lease from the said Sir Simon; the warren and lodge in Earleswood in the tenure of Richard Bushell; 5, lands called Little Stapletons, Charlcot Grove, meadow and a pool adjoining the same in the tenure of Humphrey Rogers; coppices called Charlecot Grove in the tenure of the said Sir Simon; 2 water mills under one roof called Botteley Mills with a mill pool in the tenure of Roger Norrice; a capital messuage called Clea Hall alias Fulwood Hall in the tenure of Susannah Heckstall; a messuage in the tenure of Henry Benford; lands belonging to the manor of Cleahall in the tenure of the said Sir Simon, Susannah and Henry; all lands belonging to the manor of Fulwood in the tenure of the said Sir Simon and Humphrey Archer; which messuage of Cleahall was purchased from William Spooner gentleman; all this property lying in Tanworth, Umberslade, Monkespath, Fullwood, Widney End, Solihull, Henwood, Knoll, Longdon, Nuthurst and Hampton in Arden; to hold the timber on the said property to the use of the said Sir Simon for life, then to the use of the said Thomas and his heirs male by the said Anne, or in default to the lawful heirs of the said Simon or in default to Humphrey Archer, second son of the said Sir Simon and his lawful heirs, or in default to the rightful heirs of the said Sir Simon for ever; to hold property described 1 above to the use of the said Thomas for his life, then to the use of the said Anne Leigh for her life for her jointure, then to the lawful heirs of the said Thomas and Anne or in default as in 1, ; to hold the property described in 2 above to the use of the said Thomas for his life, then to the use of the said Anne Leigh for her life for an increase in jointure then to the use of the rightful heirs of the said Thomas Archer for ever; to hold the property described in 3 above to the use of the said Sir Simon for his life, then to the use of the Lady Anne, wife of the said Sir Simon for her life , for her jointure, then to the use of the said Thomas Archer and the heir male of the said Thomas and Anne Leigh, or in default as for 1, ; to hold the property described in 4 above to the use of the said Sir Simon for his life, then to the use of the said Thomas and his heirs male by the said Anne Leigh, or in default as for 1, ; to hold the property described 5 above to the use of the said Sir Simon Archer and his heirs for ever.
