Monkspath in Tanworth

Description

Agreement between Sir George Throkmerton knight and Richard Archard of Tonworth in the county of Warr' esquire concerning the custody and marriage of the said Richard Archer: whereas John Archard, father of the said Richard, was seised of the manor of Monkespath among other lands in the county of Warr' and died seised of the same, and the King's escheator found that the said manor was held of the King by knight service and that the said Richard was under age, the said Richard and the said property were granted to the said George by Letters Patent during the minority of the said Richard, the said parties now agreed that the said Richard should pay the said George £200 in lieu of the marriage and custody of the said Richard, £126. 13. 4d. at the sealing of this agreement, and £36. 13. 4d. at Easter for 2 years following; the said Richard to save the said George harmless against any claim by the crown or by any others. Endorsed: [Contemp] to proue that archars land ys holden of the kyng by knyzghtes ceruyse [Later 16th cent] An Indenture between Sir George Throkmerton ye King's Patentee [sic] Richard Archer touching the Wardship of the body and landes of the said Richard with ye money paid the said Sir George by the said Richard for his rebayment of his land marriage in ye 19 year of Henry VIII. [18th cent] money paid 200 l English, parchment, 22 x 111/2 in., indented.
