Indenture of Assignment between Samuel Farren of Staple Inn gentleman - Mary his wife of the 1st part, John Cowper of Staple Inn aforesaid gentleman - Joel Northam of Southampton Buildings in the Parish of St. Andrew, Holborn, Middlesex staymaker of the 2nd part and Matthew Barlow of the Parish of St. Dunstan in the West, London jeweller, citizen and embroiderer of London of the 3rd part. Reciting DR38/1145, it was witnessed that they the said John Cowper and Joel Northam (in consideration of 5/- to each of them paid by Matthew Barlow) and in consideration of £200 paid by Matthew Barlow to Samuel Farren, they the said John Cowper and Joel Northam at the direction of Samuel Farren assigned to Matthew Barlow the residue of the term of 99 years (limited by DR38/1145) in the premises described in DR38/1145 subject to a proviso for redemption upon repayment of the £200 and interest by Samuel Farren to Matthew Barlow. Covenant by John Cowper and Joel Northam to levy a fine. Signed Samuel Farren, Mary Farren, John Cowper and Joel Northam. Red wax seal, crest a bear and ragged staff, shield two lions rampant between a bend engrailed. Witnessed by Robert Weston and Abram Twopenny. Endorsed upon the back with an Indenture of Assignment dated 28th January 1758, of the above Mortgage by Matthew Barlow to Robert Skyrin of Chelsea, Middlesex gentleman. Signed as before. Witnessed by Robert Smith of the Vine Tavern, Hand Court, Holborn and George Williams, his drawer.
