Indenture of Lease between John Payton of Stratford-upon-Avon gentleman (only son and heir of John Payton late of the same place innholder who died intestate) of one part and Charles Pestell of the same place surgeon, John Whateley of Chadshunt and Edward Townsend Higgins of Tiddington gentleman of the other part whereby John Payton in consideration of 5/- to him paid by the persons of the other part demised to them the premises described in DR 38/1257, DR 38/1236 DR 38/1264 also a messuage, malthouse and appurtenances in the Rother Market, Stratford-upon-Avon then in the occupation of Widow Keyte also another messuage with appurtenances in Henley Street and in the Guild pits, Stratford-upon-Avon in the tenures of John Cope and William Burke also another messuage called the White Lion Inn with stables, yards and appurtenances etc. which said messuage was formerly two messuages called the White Lion Inn and the Swan Inn theretofore purchased by John Payton deceased of the Reverend Horne and William Elderton also a parcel of land theretofore purchased by John Payton deceased of Shakespeare Hart with the buildings thereon also a garden in the North side of the White Lion Inn used therewith and abutting on the highway near the Guild pits which garden was theretofore two lands of the former Common Fields of Stratford-upon-Avon which were purchased by John Payton deceased of Mr. Horne and which garden was allotted by the Enclosure Award to John Payton deceased upon enclosure, all which last mentioned messuage and land were theretofore in the occupation of John Payton deceased subsequently of John Payton junior and then of William Baker also a messuage with appurtenances and closes enjoyed therewith containing 14 acres lying in the Common Fields of Knowle also a malthouse built on part thereof and 3 closes called Bryers Moors, Malthouse Pingle and Betts Close theretofore copyhold and enfranchised and conveyed to Mr. William Shakespeare by Richard Smith, Lord of the Manor of Knowle also certain lands in Baddesley Clinton, Hockley Heath and Tanworth therein specified to hold the same for one year at a peppercorn rent.
