Description

From Arthur Hodgson, Montpellier, Brisbane to Frank Hodgson. He speaks of the problems with the mail, which arrives too late to answer before the mail to England is collected. He has sent fifteen packets of seeds, collected from the Government Gardens. Frank is not to import them but send them directly to his friend , Mr Hay. He has lost the electionfor the Leichardt District. They had equal votes but his opponant was returned by the casting vote of the Returning Officer. The present government were defeated yesterday and will probably go to the country so there will be a fresh election and he may be elected if he consents to come forward. He has not yet made up his mind whether to do so. Politics are at a very low ebb and democracy is rampant. Young Willie has arrived and has gone to Eton Vale until Christmas. He hopes that Frank has had a pleasant long vacation and will work hard when he goes back to Cambridge. Corny Hewitt is on a sheep stationabout 500 miles from Brisbane and he hears that he is happy. He has been to Wetherron, a sheep and cattle station at the request of Earl Dacie to see how his two younger brothers are getting on there. Emily, Charlotte and Mama are very well and Percy went back to school on July 18.
