Hodgson of Clopton House: Correspondence and diary notes

Description

From Eliza Hodgson, Montpellier, Brisbane, to Frank Hodgson. She thanks him for the photographs and says that Edward has sent her a chain. Edward is finding being away from his English friends very trying. She worries about Frank's future and thought about him in church when the sermon related to Mother's who gave their sons to the service of God. The weather is magnificent. She enjoyed her visit to Sydney, spending most of her time with the Knoxes. She complains about the boorishness of the Knox boys and of the silliness of the Sydney set. The Isaacs are going slowly to the wall and she speaks of their troubles. The Duke of Edinburgh is on a second visit. He paid almost indecent attention to actresses, drinks and smokes more than he ought. She hopes that Frank will keep himself clear of any female influence and that he will not hurt himself rowing.
