Hodgson of Clopton House: Correspondence and diary notes

Description

From Eliza Hodgson to Frank Hodgson They have had an unusually gay week but Emily, Lilly and Annie have all had colds. They went to Lady Conyers 'small and early' and she has been to the Warneford but not the Hunt (Balls). Lilly's new dress from London did not become her and at her first few parties she was too anxious and nervous. The invitations are out for the 23rd. Everyone is expecting to enjoy themselves and she hopes that they will not be disappointed. They are turning out the dining room and and the drawing room for the occasion. She is not surprised that he does not find Rome as comfortable as Clopton and he cannot expect such good food. He must take the rough and the smooth. Charlotte is looking better but still very white. They have had a great deal of wet. Mrs Cadogan has her child's party on the night of their dinner which has prevented some people from coming. James is kept busy 'tooting' his instrument in the schoolroom and playing billiards.
