Hodgson of Clopton House: Correspondence and diary notes

Description

From Eliza Hodgson, Clopton to Frank Hodgson They bare 'Darby and Joan' only mostly 'Joan' as Papa left her alone after leaving the carriage at Shipston and did not arrive home until11.20pm. It is dull in the house without anyone. She describes their visit to London. on leaving London they went to King's Langley and visited Blenheim. The house has been spring cleaned whilst they were away. Lady Dowling cannot bear Sydney. There has been a god hub bub about the infirmary. She hopes that he will do well with his curacy and get with a good man who hits the happy medium. She complains of High Church people. 'They are too much for show'. Charlotte seems to be happy at school. She is amused about Frank and his food and thinks that the 'much despised Clopton breakfasts would now be acceptable'. She goes on to describe last night's dinner in detail.
