Stivichall Maps, Surveys

Description

Volume containing surveys by Edward Sale of the estates of Arthur Gregory, esq., taken in the years 1787 and 1788. These consist of: £3, the manor and parish of Stivichall (1787); f.19, lands in the parish of St. Michael, Coventry (two plots only:1787); f.22, Stivichall Grange in the parish of Stoneley (1787); f.27, the King's-Hill Estate in the parish of Stoneley (1787); and f.40, the Brinklow estate (1788). The survey is arranged under tenants, and the fields and buildings etc. surveyed in 1787 are numbered consecutively 1-167. These form a key to a map, now missing, but a coloured tracing of which is at the British Museum (Add. Ms.41477). The Trust holds a photostat of this map (PR63). The map of the Brinklow estate, surveyed in 1788, is included in the volume: scale, 8 chains to 1 inch (f.41). Enclosed is a bill from Edward Sale to Arthur Gregory, dated 1 October 1787, for £51. 4s. 3d. for the work done in 1787 with receipt dated 8 May 1788, and a further receipt, dated 9 July 1788, for £2. 2s. 0d. for the mapping of the Brinklow Estate.
