Conveyance between John Smith of Sevenhampton, Glos. Farmer of 1st part John Court of Stratford-upon-Avon Innkeeper, George Jarrett of Birmingham Butcher and Mary his wife and William Court of Stratford-upon-Avon Innkeeper of the 2nd part the Rt. Honourable George William Frederick Howard (commonly called Viscount Morpeth) Thomas Amyot of James Street Buckingham Gate Middlesex Esquire Thomas Thomson of Stratford-upon-Avon Doctor of Medicine and John Payne Collier of Kensington Middlesex Esquire of 3rd part Reciting the will of Thomas Court (TR46/1/32) whereby Testator devised to Henry Smith, subject to the life interest of Ann his wife, the property then in after conveyed, upon trust for sale and division amongst his (the Testators) children John, Leonard, Mary, Ann , William and Sarah, of whom Leonard, Ann (therefore wife of Edmund Archer) and Sarah died in the life time of Ann widow of the Testator and Mary was married to the said George Jarrett and reciting the death of Thomas Court on the 26th March 1818 and the death of Henry Smith intestate on the 6th July 1845 leaving John Smith his eldest son and heir at law him surviving also that Ann Court widow of Thomas Court died in October 1846. It was thereby witnessed that John Smith with the privity and consent of John Court, George Jarrett and Mary his wife and William Court granted to the said Viscount Morpeth, Thomas Amyot, Thomas Thompson and John Payne Collier and their heirs for even in consideration of £3,000 paid by the grantees to John Smith, the messuage in Henley Street called the Swan and Maidenhead with the stables granary appurtenances and the other messuage adjoining to the last mentioned messuage on the Westside thereof with outbuildings gardens and appurtenances commonly called Shakespeare's House. Signed John Smith, John Court, George Jarrett, Mary Jarrett and William Court. Seals of red wax bearing initials W.J. (probably Walter Jessop Cheltenham solicitor for the Vendors) Witnesses Walter Jessop and Aaron Wills Gay Cheltenham Gent. 2 membranes Attached a Certificate of even date with the above as to the examination of Mary Jarrett separately from her husband as to her knowledge of and consent to the contents of the above conveyance.
