The Revenger's Tragedy, Programme - Royal Shakespeare Theatre

Description

A copy of the programme, two different versions of the printed cast list and a copy of Profile Sheet Number 26, featuring Jeffrey Dench and Nicholas Selby.

The programme is annotated '4th May 1967'. It includes:
'Night, Red Light and Blood', which draws partly on a programme note to the 1965 Pitlochry Festival presentation, the first professional production known since the play's publication in 1607,
'The Melancholy Jacobean Man' by L.C. Knights (1937).

The programme also includes reproductions of rehearsal photographs by Gordon Goode.

One of the cast lists is annotated '2nd & 3rd May 1967, Club Performances', the other is marked '4th May 1967'.

Custodial History

Collected by the RSC and deposited with SBT.

The programme, both cast lists and profile sheet are all embossed with the SMT Library stamp.

Admin History

This programme states that The Revenger's Tragedy was by Cyril Tourneur. However, academic studies often now attribute the play to Thomas Middleton.

The programme was issued by the RSC and printed by the Herald Press, Stratford-upon-Avon.
