Photographic postcard showing broken samian ware. Handwritten manuscript on the back of the postcard states that this item was found in a garden near Priory Road, Alcester by P R Hough-Love at a depth of 1ft associated with broken samian ware on April 10th 1926. Mr Reginald Smith of the British Museum says of this specimen " The glass base is interesting and has the signature OSABEL probably for O. SABELLII, the workshop of Sabellius. The E being written II as often Roman of the 2nd century I imagine, but cannot find another example."
