Letter from James Martineau, Unitarian divine (1805-1900), dated at Edgehill, Liverpool, co. Lancs., to the Reverend W. Bevan, introducing to him one Edward Flower whose ' interests have suffered from the zealous and honourable part he has taken in the agitation for an earlier release of Assistant Tradesmen from their attendance in the shops'; suggests forming a subscription whereby Flower can set himself up in business.

James Martineau's sister, Sarah, married Charles Edward Flower of Stratford-upon-Avon in 1852, and the two families were already linked by an earlier friendship. The Edward Flower of this letter, however, has not been identified.
