Assignment dated 11 January 11 Charles I [1636], by William Clopton of Graies Inn, co. Midd., esq., and Robert Crosby of Barkeinge, co. Essex, gent., to Charles Towneley of Towneley, co. Lanc., of a Lease for 100 years of a messuage, with lands, etc. called Humbleton and Arlawbankes, in Gainford, co. Durham, granted by John Cowlton of Barnard Castle, co. Durham, gent., 28 July 4 James 5 [1606] to William Clopton of Sledwich, co. Durham, esq. (father of the William Clopton aforesaid) and assigned to him, 16 August 4 Charles [I] [1628] to the now assignors. Witnesses: William Thornton and Henry Sherburne.
