Description

Draft of an agreement between Richard Over of Coventre, gent., son and heir of Henry Over, late alderman of the said city, deceased, and the administrator of the goods of the said Henry Over, and the mayor and bailiffs and the said city, reciting the will of the said Henry Over, dated 24 June 1567, whereby he devised to the said mayor and bailiffs all the rents from certain of his houses in Coventre for 12 years, and also an annuity of 10 pounds which he bought of John Meynard, until such time as the said mayor and bailiffs should have received the clear sum of 500 pounds, which would then be put to the following uses: 400 pounds on loan at interest, and 100 pounds into the treasure house of St. Mary Hall, to the intent that should any of the Council House have need thereof, then they could have 10 or 20 pounds for one, two or three months, leaving plate in pawn; and reciting that the said Richard Over, by virtue of a lease from the said mayor and bailiffs to the said Henry Over, dated 20 March, 36 Henry VIII [1544/5] is in possession of a messuage or farm called Hawkesbury in the parish of Sowe, of which lease many years are yet unexpired. It is now agreed that the said Richard Over, in consideration of 290 pounds allowed to him and to be deducted from the said 500 pounds, will assign to the said mayor and bailiffs the said annuity of 10 pounds, and also, in consideration of 80 pounds similarly to be deducted from the said 500 pounds, will surrender to them his lease of the said messuage or farm in Sowe; and whereas there still remains outstanding 130 pounds of the said 500 pounds, the said Richard Over agrees to pay to the said mayor and bailiffs 20 pounds annually until the sum is paid off.
