Description

Settlement of the estates of Francis Smyth of Wootton Wawen, esq., reciting a settlement of 26 May 1597 on the marriage of his grandson, Francis Smyth to Anne Markham, daughter of Thomas Markham of Kirkhy Bellars, co. Leics., esq., whereby the lands first mentioned were to be held to the use of Francis Smyth the elder for life, and then to the use of Francis Smyth the younger, and the lands second mentioned to be held to the use of Francis Smyth the elder for life, with remainder to his wife, Elizabeth, for life, and then to the use of Francis Smyth the younger; i) The manor of Beaudesert with lands etc. in Wootton Wawen, Whitley, Preston Bagot and Hazelholt, the advowsons of Beaudesert and Preston Bagot, a capital messuage and lands in Shottery, a capital messuage at Baginton, and a capital messuage, houses and lands at Marlcliff and Bidford. ii) Seven messuages and seven yardlands in Shottery, late belonging to the dissolved College of Stratford-upon-Avon; By this settlement the said estates are further entailed upon Charles Smyth and Thomas Smyth, the sons of Francis Smyth, the younger.
