Knight of Barrells

Description

Letter from Archibald White at Great Missenden, Bucks., to the Rt. Hon. the Countess Poulett. In a business which he was transacting for the Rev. H.C. Knight, a declaration of his identity as the only surviving son of Robert and the Hon. Mrs. Knight was required, and by his direction he forwarded one for her to make. It should be signed by her in the presence of a Master Extraordinary in Chancery or a Justice of the Peace. Her ladyship's country solicitor was no doubt such a Master Extraordinary and would attend to the business at her request. If the declaration was made before a Justice of the Peace, he should add after his signature the words `one of H.M. Justices of the Peace for the county of Somerset'. There was no need for the declaration to be read before the Master or Justice, if her ladyship had read it previously. She need only sign it. Signed: Archd. White. With copy of the same.
