Affidavit of Thomas Drakeford of Coventry, gentleman, concerning the identity of Elizabeth Barnes and Dorothy White, the daughters of Charlotte, the eldest daughter of William Drakeford (father of Thomas); with parish register certificates, 1809-24 enclosed Thomas Drakeford states: Aged over 70 Son of William Drakeford, formerly of Bedworth, Warwickshire, deceased and his wife Esther Is uncle of: Elizabeth, wife of Dennis George Barnes, Coventry, auctioneer, late Elizabeth Smith, widow and Dorothy, wife of William White, Coventry, gent. Elizabeth and Dorothy are two of the children of Charlotte, eldest daughter of said William and Esther Drakeford, by her husband William Whorrall, deceased., and the two grandchildren mentioned in the will of William Drakeford, dated 20 April 1814 as devisees of an estate in Claverdon. Has examined Bible belonging to his father William, which contains entriesd of his marriage and the births of his several children, including Charlotte Whorrall, and also another ' Charlotte's first born son Thomas Born 28th December 1786 the second child Elizabeth 26 June 1788 the third Child Dorothy 4 March 1790' Entry is in the hand of his father William, and Thomas believes it to be correct Elizabeth is now Elizabeth Barnes and Dorothy is now Dorothy White. He remembers Elizabeth marrying Thomas Smith, by wehom she had 6 children, namely: Elizabeth, married to Stephen Knapp; Charlotte, married to William Sansome Davis; Thomas Smith; Martha Smith; James Smith and Mary Smith. Mary, the youngest child was 21 last March, and was baptised in the church of St John the Baptist, Coventry. Elizabeth Barnes has no other children Dorothy White has no children Thomas Smith, the first husband of Elizabeth Barnes died in 1831 Elizabeth Smith married George Barnes in March 1836 Copy certificates enclosed All from St John the Baptist, Coventry 8 October 1809 Marriage of Thomas Smith, widower and Eliza Whorrall, spinster, both of the parish, by licence.
