Description

Three papers connected with a case in the Exchequer of Pleas between the Mayor, Aldermen and burgesses of Coventry, plaintiffs, and Edmund Lythall, William Wilson, Thomas Elton, William Serjeant, Thomas George Cheadle, Peter Cheadle the younger, William Camwell, Joseph Voile and John Bray, defendants, concerning the Corporation's attempt to exempt the rural parishes of the old county of Coventry from clause 21 of the Municipal Amendment Act. This was opposed by the parishes of Ansty, Foleshill, Exhall, Sowe, Stivichall, Stoke and Wyken and the hamlet of Keresley, who objected to coming under the city's jurisdiction. Two of the papers are plans, the larger one dated 1841, and the third is a petition from the said parishes outlining their objections.
