Description

Gift from Richard de Dodenhale of Coventre, merchant, to Beatrice, widow of John Styward of the same merchant, of a messuage in Coventre in le Frerelane between the tenement formerly belonging to John Warde and the tenement formerly belonging to John de Brigstoke in breadth and extending in length from the highway to the land of the prior and convent of Coventr'; which said messuage the grantor and William Pynckebek of Coventre chaplain, had by the grant and feoffment of the said John; to hold the same to the said Beatrice of the chief lord of the fee for her life with remainder to Richard, son of the said John Styward and Beatrice and his heirs, and in default of such issue to Thomas, brother of the said Richard and his heirs, and in default to John brother of the said Thomas and his heirs and in default to William brother of the said John and his heirs and in default to Agnes sister of the said William and her heirs and in default to John Northwode, John Preston', John Happesford, Edward Lychfeld', Laurence Cook, William Dylcok, John Leder', Robert Byfeld, Nicholas Dodenhale, Richard Southam, John Cortenhale and John Parker of Coventre and their heirs to hold of the chief lord of the fee for ever. Witnesses: John de Barwe mayor of Coventr', Philip Baron' and Simon Sheffeld' bailiffs of the same, Richard Clerk, John Scardeburgh', Nicholas Dudley, Robert Shipley, John Spurryor, William Cotiller and others. Dated at Coventr', 18 April, 5 Henry IV. Seal on tag: circular, red. A letter R between two foliated branches.
