Description

Account of the expenditure of Arthur Francis Gregory from July 1833, when he came into possession of the family estates, to 1839. The accounts are divided under several heads and include not only estate but household and personal expenditure. The accounts are prefaced (folios 3-9) by an outline of A.F. Gregory's life, and the financial difficulties he has had to face since he succeeded to the estates, apparently written in about 1849: `I have written these lines as a preface to the account of my stewardship that my dear boy ----- may not think his father a prodigal, wasteful of that which he holds only in trust'. Folios 177-8 contain a short account of his decision to sell land to the Coventry to Warwick and Leamington Rail-Way Company, and, with the proceeds, to purchase Lord Aylesford's farm in Stivichall [see no. 964].
