Description

Settlement on the marriage of Edward Hinton of Lichfield, co. Staffs., eldest son and heir apparent of Samual Hinton of the same, Doctor in the Laws, by Elizabeth his wife, to Mary Gregory of Stivichall, alias Stichall, spinster,being a conveyance in trust by lease and release (lease missing) from the said Samuel Hinton, Elizabeth Hinton and Edward Hinton to Thomas Flynt of Fletchamsteed Parke, esq., and Richard Taylor of Anstey, gent., for 1000 pounds paid to them as a marriage portion, of five closes of pasture or meadow ground in Onely in the parish of Barby, co. Northants., called part of the North Town Closes, the Southward Shitterocke, the Northward Shitterocke, the Abovetowne Furlong, the Chapell Close, and a little close within the site of the town of Onely, late called John Smithe's Close, with a tenement situated within the same; also the eastern half of the Great Wood of Barby, and a close of pasture in Kingstreete Feild in Onely called Widdowe Smithe's Close, and all other lands in Onely and Barby lately purchased of Sir John Smith, knight; also several closes and tenements in Harteshill, co. Warws., namely, Great Harteshill Leaze containing forty-seven acres, Little Harteshill Leaze containing twenty-seven acres, Woodford Harteshill Leaze containing twenty-six acres and Hawthorne Meadowe containing six acres; also a farm and farmhouse with all the appurtenances in Curborough, co. Staffs.; to hold the same to the said Thomas Flynt and Richard Taylor to the following uses: as regards the farm in Curborough, to the use of the said Samuel Hinton for life, then to the said Elizabeth Hinton for life, and then to the said Edward Hinton and his heirs; as regards the lands in Harteshill, to the use of the said Edward Hinton for life, and then to the said Mary Gregory for life, with reversion to their heirs male, or in default to Samuel Hinton, the second, son of the said Samuel Hinton, and his heirs male, or in default to Charles Hinton, the third son,and his heirs male; as regards the five closes in Onely, to the use of the said Edward Hinton for 99 years, or until his death, and then to the use of Mary Gregory with reversion as before; and as regards all other lands in Onely and Barby, to the use of Samuel Hinton for life, then to the use of Edward Hinton for 99 years or until his death, and then to his heirs male; and to hold the same upon the further trusts that, should the said Edward Hinton have only one daughter, then the said Thomas Flynt and Richard Taylor shall raise for her a portion of 1500 pounds upon her marriage or her coming of age; or should the said Edward Hinton have more than one daughter, then the said 1500 pounds shall be divided equally between them.
