Description

Lease from Humphrey Ferrers of Bangley Lodge in Dreyton, esq. and Anne his wife, to Henry Brunte of Stychall', yeoman, reciting an indenture of 20 October 1 and 2 Phillip and Mary [1554: see no. 781] whereby William Neyle, late of Stychall', surgeon, leased to the said Henry Brunte a messuage, houses, barns, buildings, lands and meadows, etc. in the occupation of the said Henry and a cottage with croft in the tenure of John Jarrowe in Stychall', to hold for 20 years; and reciting an indenture of 1 April 2 and 3 Phillip and Mary [1556] whereby the said William Neyle leased to the said Henry Brunte a messuage, garden, orchard, with lands and meadows, etc. in Stychall' in the tenure of Richard Sheiffeilde, to hold the arable land from Michalmas 1557, and the messuage from Michaelmas 1558 for 17 years; all of which land the said William held for a term of years, the reversion of which now belongs to the said Humphrey Ferrers and Anne his wife, by the gift of John Ferrers, father of the said Humphrey. The said Humphrey and Anne his wife, for 30 pounds, now lease to the said Henry Brunte all the said property with the addition of two cottages and two crofts adjoining the same and all the meadow ground called Heathe mylle meadowe, with the lops and crops of all the trees growing there, in Stychall' and now in the tenure of the said Henry Brunte; to hold the same from the end of the last or longest term specified above for a term of 21 years, rendering annually £3. 9s. (2 terms); and should the said Henry die within the said term, then his heir is to give as heriot the best beast in his possession; and the said Henry also to pay 20 shillings towards the furnishing of a soldier whenever necessary; and the said Henry to maintain the said property at his own expense, except for the provision of great timbers, which may be taken from the property of the said Humphrey.
