Petition of the Bailiff, Burgesses and parishioners of Stratford to Lord Treasurer Burleigh [Burley]

Description

Showing that by letters patent of King Edward VI. there should be a perpetual vicar in the Church of Stratford, with a pension of twenty pounds paid by the said Bailiff and Burgesses, and that hitherto the incumbents have enjoyed the same without the payment of any first fruits, but that now process from the Exchequer has gone forth against the now minister, Mr. Bramhall, the stipend being so small, and the cure so large (not less than 3000 souls) they fear that no able and learned minister will undertake the office ; they pray therefore that he may be discharged from the same with twenty-five signatures, c1590
