Lady Russell's case stated. Opinion of[Sir] Edward Northey. William Lowndes [secretary to the Treasury] to Sir Edward Northey, his Majesty's attorney general The circumstances of the payments of Lady Russell's grant are stated, with the question as to what would be equitable and just for her to ask of the crown in satisfaction of the loss sustained through non-payment of her grant for 17 1/2 years, being only the lawful interest on the £10,000 which she released in return for the grant. Sir Edward's opinion that in point of law and equity no interest is to be paid but the arrears are to be paid out of the whole rents immediately Memorandum, covering the statement and referring the case to Sir Edward.
