Marie Corelli's Correspondence with A.J. Still
Description
Letters and telegrams from Marie Corelli, mainly dated at Stratford, to Alexander William Still, editor of the 'Birmingham Daily Gazette'.
Begins with general solicitation for press notices, but continues with:
- complaints against the 'Stratford-upon-Avon Herald' for its disinclination to report the public luncheon to be held on Shakespeare's Birthday;
- the controversy over the proposed demolition of cottages in Henley Street to provide a site for a Carnegie Free Library;
- Marie Corelli's quarrel with J. Harvey Bloom, 'a country cleric', particularly over his 'Errors of the Avon Star', a 'scurrilous pamphlet';
- H. Beerbohm Tree's disagreement with the Shakespeare Memorial Theatre;
Concludes with reference to the libel case against Fred Winter.
