Records of the reformed Borough of Stratford-upon-Avon

Description

This collection contains the records of the following offices:

Town Clerk's office (refs BRR 1 - 15);
Borough Chamberlain and Treasurer's office (refs BRR 16 - 48);
Borough Surveyor and Borough Engineer's Office (refs BRR 49 - 60);
Public Health Inspector's office (refs BRR 61 - 66);
Borough Police (ref BRR 67);
Public Library (ref BRR 68);
Information Office (ref BRR 69);
Gifts and deposits of records made to Stratford-upon-Avon Borough Council (ref BRR 70);
Miscellanea (ref BRR 71).

The collection largely covers the period 1836-1974, reflecting Council reorganisation in 1974, following the Local Government Act 1972. However, as a few (mainly civic) responsibilities passed from the Borough of Stratford-upon-Avon to Stratford Town Council, a small number of records have continued to be used and are retained in this Collection, to maintain both the functional and administrative integrity of the records. See individual entries for details.
