Description

Extract from the will of Thomas Lord Leigh, dated 5 November 1710, bequeathing to his cousin, William Bromley of Baggington, esq., and his son Clowbray Bromley, esq., Arthur Gregory of Stivichall, gent., and his (Thomas') sons, Edward Leigh and Charles Leigh, 800 pounds in trust to purchase lands in or near Stoneley to produce 20 pounds per annum for the maintenance of a schoolmaster, and for the repair of a school house; and also to purchase and build a convenient habitation for the said schoolmaster. By a later clause, Edward Leigh is required to fit up a certain building in Stonely called the Court House to be used as the school. Will proved at London, 17 March 1711.
