Probate copy of the will, dated 25 February 1859, of Thomas Gibbs of Stratford-upon-Avon, watchmaker, with the following bequests: i) to Thomas Taplin of Stratford-upon-Avon, labourer, a messuage in Stratford-upon-Avon in the occupation of the said Thomas Gibbs and half of the garden in Stratford-upon-Avon also in the occupation of Thomas Gibbs [see DR274/34] ii) to Sarah Wilkins, wife of ------- Wilkins of Stratford-upon-Avon, labourer, a messuage in Stratford-upon-Avon in the occupation of William Richmond, gardener, and half the garden described in DR274/5/i, including the hothouse. [see DR274/34] iii) to Henry Cross of Fulbrook, farmer, a messuage with offices and garden in High Street now in the occupation of John Luckett, cordwainer, subject to the payment of £100 under this will to Elizabeth, niece of the said Thomas Gibbs, the wife of William Compton of Stratford-upon-Avon, innkeeper iv) to his said niece, Elizabeth Anne Compton, the sum of £100, charged on the messuage of the said Henry Cross as described in DR274/5/iii, which sum is to be given to her free from marital control v) to the said Henry Cross and James Ward of Stratford-upon-Avon, machine manufacturer, all his personal estate in trust to pay to ------- Richmond, wife of the said William Richmond, the sum of £30 for her sole use vi) to the said Henry Cross, half of the residue of his estate, the remaining half to be shared equally between the said Thomas Taplin and the said Sarah Wilkins, her share to be held free from marital control vii) to the said Henry Cross and James Ward, all real estate vested in him as trustee or mortgagee The said Henry Cross and James Ward appointed executors. Proved in the District Registry of Her Majesty's Court of Probate at Birmingham, 29 April 1867.
