`Boke of Scraps relating to Shakespere his House': a collection made by Theodosius Purland, Ph.D., member of the College of Dentists of England, etc. The title-page dated 14 Sep 1847, the printed half-title, 1857.

The volume chiefly consists of newspaper cuttings and other printed matter, conditions of sale, advertisements, circulars, bills of theatrical performances, etc. relating to the sale by auction of Shakespeare's Birthplace and to funds raised for its purchase, in 1847, and further activities to 1864. A few letters and other MS material are interspersed. In addition to engraved portraits, views, etc. the following pen and ink sketches are included: - `George Jones, Esq.' who bid for the property, drawn at the auction Mart, 16 Sep 1847 (f. 9v) - portraits of attendants at the sale `sketched in the room', viz. John Court, one of the vendors, Charles Knight, John P. Collier, J.O. Halliwell, George Godwin (f. 105v) - Scene at the sale, drawn by J.W. Archer for the Illustrated London News (f. 115v) `Oure effigies done by our late facetious friend J.W. Archer' (f. 229)
