Description

Settlement on the marriage of John and Elizabeth Newcourt, being a revocation by the said John Newcourt the elder, of Pyckwell, Devon, esq., of part of a feoffment dated 1 January 1579/80 to Humphrey Sperot, Charles Beare, William Gibbes and Alxander Nott, esquires, of lands and tenements in Holdsworth, Hollocombe, Peworth, Pancrasweke, Georgeham, Pyckwell, Barnstaple and Tyverton, Devon, and Whiteston, Cornwall, to hold to the use of the said John Newcourt; that the messuage called Hundewike and the other messuages and lands in Plyndewyck in Holdsworthe, now in the tneure of William Clifforde, gent., John Buse, Stephen Penrose, Hugh Hunte, John Carwith; messuages and lands in Wynscote in in Pyworthy, now in the tenure of Richard Collyns, Agnes Cowker, Henry Hutchings, Richard Glyddon and Thomas Denys, and lands and messuages in Bromell, Pancrasweke, now in the tenure of John Painter, should be held to the said John Newcourt and his heirs male on the body of Amy Audelay, daughter of George Tutchett, now Lord Audelay, lawfully begotten and to be begotten; in default, to the said Elizabeth and the heirs of her body begotten by Sir John Popham, Chief Justice of England, for her jointure; in default to John his son, to Philip, another son of the said John Newcourt, and if default to ?Mary, daughter of the said John Newcourt, wife of the said William Gibbs
