Archer of Tanworth

Description
Manuscript volume containing a genealogical history of the Archer family, temp. Henry II - c.1660. This is almost certainly the work of Sir Simon Archer (on f. 91v there is mention of 'Andrew Archer my father) but, with the exception of notes by him on ff. 34v, 59v, 90, 97, is not in his hand. The volume appears to have been written up by a copyist, probably from Sir Simon's notes compiled at different times. This is suggested by a refernece on f. 91 to Simon's father as being 'yett living' (he died April 1629 and see also notes on ff. 8 and 8v) even though on ff. 28v, 37v, 40, 64, 88v and 90, the whereabout of documents in 1634-1638 is given. The original opening paragraph, on f. 7, was rewritten on f. 6v to include the note 'The family of the Archers have been owners of Omberslade ... even to this day, 1659' Octavo, 113ff., bound in leather, with Archer arms stamped in gold on the front and back cover, and with one clasp remaining.
