Knight of Barrells

Description

Copy letter from Thomas Holyoake at Little Alne near Alcester to Mr. A. White, Great Missenden, Bucks., in reply to his application for a valuation of the settled estates which Robert Knight of Barrels House esq. held as tenant for life under the will of his father the late Earl of Catherlough. In 1840 he had valued all the lands in the parishes of Wootton Wawen and Oldborough belonging to the said Robert Knight and apportioned the tithes thereof under the Tithe Commutation Act, and now set out particulars of the settled estates, with acreages from the survey then made of the parish and annual values as set by him. Lands specified under three heads: In the hamlet of Aspley, parish of Wootton Wawen In the hamlet of Ullenhall In Oldborough Total quantities: 2642 acres 3 roods 12 perches. Total annual value: £3087. 13s. 4d. The above did not include the mansion with the manorial rights or the Swan inn at Henley-in-Arden, which formed part of the settled property. Mr. Knight also had other estates in other parishes in the county, but as he did not know them to be part of the settled property he had omitted them. Signed by Thos. Holyoake.
