Maxstoke Priory lordship

Description

Ratification by Sir John de Clinton of Maxstoke, cousin and heir of William de Clinton, Earl of Huntingdon of a grant, dated 27 March 1347 to Robert, Prior of Maxstoke and the convent there of the site of the manor of Maxstoke both within the moat and without, together with the park of Maxstoke and the islands in the River Blythe, with the fishery from Pakynton as far as the upper water mill at Maxstoke. Field names mentioned include Chirchefeld, Peseforlong, Dedeshalefeld, Spelleslonde, Anketeleswell, Shepecoteyerd, Birchenemor, le Oldefeld. Also refers to the persons, houses and lands and descendants of his villeins Robert Powke, Henry le Prowde, and the tenures and services owed by Richard Cook, John le Cowherde, Simon Moryn, Robert Hare, Henry le Walker, Nicholas Barton, John le Walker, Alice le Walker, Richard le Walker, Amice, widow of John Falk, Henry Herdeneched, Thomas Anketell, Gregory atte Hayteleye, Philip Isabell, John Walrand, John Gryffyn Alice his wife, Matilda, widow of John de Doreyate, Walter de Collesleye, Robert Hood, Emma widow of Nicholas de Lyndyche, Alice widow of John Faber and Richard atte Slate All the lands and premises had been exchanged with the Prior for the manor of Shustoke with the exception of some specified fields.
