Marriage Settlement: Church Street, Neath Town Lane, Halyes Lane and west Street, Warwick

Settlement on the Marriage of John Hadley, son of Richard Hadley of Warwick, innholder, and Mary Overton of Warwick, spinster, being an agreement between Robert Bodington the elder of Whitnash, husbandman, and Mary his wife (formerly Mary Knight, daughter and heir of John Knight of Kenilworth, blacksmith, deceased), Robert Bodington the younger and Edward Bodington (two of the sons of the said Robert Bodington the elder and Mary his wife) of the first part, Thomas Cooper of Warwick, maltster and Israel his wife and Richard Hadley and Katherine his wife of the second part, William Tarver of Warwick, gent., and Henry Heath of the same place, innholder, of the third part and John Hadley and Mary Overton of the fourth part, whereby Robert Bodington the elder and Mary his wife for £110 to them paid by William Tarver, and Robert and Edward Bodington, Thomas Cooper and Israel his wife and Richard Hadley and Katherine his wife, covenanted with William Tarver and Henry Heath that they would before Michaelmas then next levy a fine to them William Tarver and Henry Heath of two cottages with appurtenances in the parish of St. Nicholas, Warwick, in Church Street (more particularly therein described), also a close called Great Lyme House Close containing two acres, adjoining to Neath Town Lane on the North; also a close containing one acre adjoining Halyes Lane in the said parish of St. Nicholas on the North thereof (reputed to have been called Flax Close); other parcels more particularly described in St. Nicholas meadow; and three messuages adjoining together in West Street, Warwick, near the Barrgates there between the messuages then in the occupation of John Savage on the West side, the said street on the South and St. Lawrence Brook on the North; to enure to the use, as to the premises in St. Nicholas Church Street, of Robert Bodington the elder for life, with remainder after his death to the use of Mary his wife for her life, and then to the use of such of the younger children of Robert Bodington the elder and Mary his wife as he Robert Bodington the elder should appoint, and, as to the premises situate in St. Nicholas Meadow, to the use of William Tarver and his heirs for ever; and, as to the messuages in West Street, to the use of Richard Hadley and his heirs until the solemnisation of his marriage, and thereafter, as to one messuage, to the use of Richard Hadley and Katherine his wife for their joint lives and the life of the survivor of them and thereafter; and also, as to and concerning the other two messuages, to the use of John Hadley for his life, with remainder to Mary his wife for her life, and then to the use of the first and other sons of John Hadley and Mary his wife successively in tail male.
